Why Can You Only See 1,000 Reddit Posts?
Reddit stops every profile list at about 1,000 items. Scroll far enough and the posts or comments simply end, even if the account has written thousands more. The older ones were not deleted. They are still public in their threads and can be reached through other sort orders, author search and public archives.
Ways past the limit
| Method | How it helps | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Change the sort | New, Top and Controversial each have their own 1,000, so each one surfaces some items the others miss | Lots of overlap between sorts |
| Author search | author:username in Reddit search finds posts outside the profile list | Posts only, not comments |
| Public archives | Hold older posts and comments by username, sometimes deleted ones too | Only what they captured |
| Reddit data request | Your full history, with no cap | Your own account only |
Why Reddit has the cap
Reddit has never published a full explanation, but the effect is easy to see: profile lists are built for browsing recent activity, not for reading a whole history, and every new post pushes the oldest one off the end. The same cap applies to subreddit listings and to Reddit's own data feeds, which is why tools that read only the profile hit the same wall.
Doing it in one search
A username search here runs several sort orders, author search and a public archive together and merges the results, so it usually reaches well past the first 1,000. It cannot promise every item ever posted, because no source has them all. To keep what it finds, you can export the history to CSV, or search older material directly with the archive search.
Search a username and reach past the 1,000 item profile limit.
