Deleted Reddit Comments

Some deleted Reddit comments can still be found in public archives. Many cannot. This explains which is which, and searches the archives for a given account.

Recovery is partial and never guaranteed. A deleted comment survives only if a public archive copied it before it was deleted. There is no way to retrieve a comment that was never archived, and no tool, including this one, can undelete anything on Reddit itself.

Deleted, removed, and gone

Reddit shows two different placeholders, and the difference decides whether recovery is realistic.

How the search works

  1. 1. Enter the username. Archives are indexed by author, so you need the account name. There is no way to search archived comment text on its own.
  2. 2. Reddit is read first, across several sort orders, to establish what still exists live.
  3. 3. A public Reddit archive is queried for the same account. Anything it holds that Reddit no longer returns is content that has since been deleted or aged out of the listings.
  4. 4. Both sets are merged, so recovered items appear alongside the live history rather than in a separate pile.

Frequently asked questions

Can deleted Reddit comments be recovered?
Sometimes. If a public archive captured the comment before it was deleted, the text still exists there. If it was deleted quickly, or was never archived, it is gone permanently and no tool can retrieve it.
What is the difference between [deleted] and [removed]?
[deleted] means the author removed their own comment. [removed] means a moderator or Reddit removed it. Removed comments are more often recoverable, because the author did not ask for them to disappear and archives captured them normally.
Does deleting my Reddit account erase my comments?
No. Deleting an account unlinks your comments from your username, replacing the author with [deleted], but the comment text stays on Reddit. To remove the text you have to delete each comment before deleting the account.
Is there a time limit on recovery?
Not a fixed one. What matters is whether an archive captured the comment between it being posted and being deleted. A comment deleted within minutes is very unlikely to have been archived.
Can I recover a deleted post as well as a comment?
The same logic applies. An archived post keeps its original title and body even after Reddit shows it as removed, so recovery depends entirely on whether it was captured.
Is recovering deleted comments allowed?
This only reads publicly archived data that was public when it was captured. It does not bypass any Reddit privacy setting, because deletion is not a privacy setting, and nothing here accesses private content.
